What we do

💡 What We Intend to Do
The DarkSkyTour partnership will work hand-in-hand with local communities to:
🔭 Establish “DarkSky Place Labs” in 8 regions — inclusive, living labs where new eco-tourism services will be co-designed and tested through world cafés, hackathons, workshops, and other creative formats.
🌠 Develop and verify innovative astrotourism services, including night hikes, biodiversity tours, stargazing events, astro-photography, and cultural or wellness experiences under the stars.
🎓 Build capacity among citizens and stakeholders, through factsheets, workshops, and field activities that explain the science of light pollution and the economic potential of astrotourism.
🌍 Create Dark Sky Tourism itineraries in each region, leading to a transnational route that showcases the unique night sky experiences across all project territories.
📜 Develop DarkSky Transnational Standards to reduce light pollution—such as improved lighting systems, community guidelines, and biodiversity-safe infrastructure.
🔁 Prepare a transferability roadmap to expand the concept beyond the current partnership, identifying new Euro-MED regions that could benefit from Dark Sky Tourism development.
🎉 Host an International Festival and Hackathon in Region of Western Greece, culminating in a vibrant exchange of ideas, services, and commitments to protect the night sky across Europe.
🤝 Why This Matters
Our partnership believes that the dark night sky is a cultural, ecological, and scientific treasure—one that can inspire awe, create jobs, and support rural development, all while helping to tackle pressing environmental challenges.
DarkSkyTour is more than a project.
It’s a movement toward rediscovering the stars—and using them to light a path toward a greener, more inclusive, and more sustainable tourism model for all.
